The first two weeks, photographed gently

A newborn changes almost daily, and the earliest days have a quality nothing later quite repeats: deep sleep, curled-up poses, tiny fingers that still fold the way they did before birth. The best window for this kind of session is within the first two weeks, when babies sleep most soundly and settle most easily into those soft, womb-like positions. That is why many parents get in touch during pregnancy, so a slot can be planned around the due date rather than chased afterwards.

Nothing about a newborn session is rushed. The baby sets the rhythm. If a feed is due, the session pauses. If a nappy change or a long cuddle is needed, that comes first. The pictures happen in between, in the calm stretches, and the result is a set of portraits that look peaceful because the baby genuinely was.

What a newborn session includes

Sessions are built around wraps, baskets, soft blankets and small, baby-safe props, with backdrops and themes chosen to suit your taste — simple and classic, or styled around a colour or idea you love. You are welcome to bring a special outfit, a blanket, or a keepsake of your own; these personal touches often become the frames parents treasure most.

Parents and siblings belong in the pictures too. A newborn held in a parent’s arms, an older brother or sister leaning in close, grandparents gathered around — these family frames sit naturally alongside the solo portraits of the baby. If you would like moving memories as well, optional video can be added to the session.

The studio keeps the space warm, clean and quiet, with everything a small baby might need close at hand. Posing is gentle throughout, with safety guiding every setup, and no position is ever forced.

Inside the Newtown studio

The studio is at Unit 503, 5th Floor, The Terminus, Pride Plaza, Street No. 144, BG Block, Action Area 1B, Newtown, Kolkata 700156. The room is set up so a newborn stays comfortable from start to finish: warm, hygienic, and free of the noise and hurry of an ordinary day out.

Timing is baby-led. A session with one or two themes or setups takes around an hour. Three or four setups take around two to three hours, because feeding, burping and soothing breaks are part of the session, not interruptions to it. Morning sessions usually work best, when babies tend to be calm and sleepy after a feed, and the soft light suits the pictures.

Bring the usual essentials — nappies, milk, a change of clothes — and anything that helps your baby settle. The team will take care of the rest, including plenty of patience for the moments when your baby decides otherwise. Awake babies photograph beautifully too; wide eyes and small expressions make for pictures just as loved as the sleeping ones.

Outdoors, and the wider Kolkata picture

Most newborn work happens in the studio, where warmth and quiet can be controlled. Outdoor sessions are available on request, and for families who want an open-air frame, Eco Park, Rabindra Sarobar and the Maidan offer green, unhurried settings. Many families keep the newborn session itself in-studio and return later for outdoor family portraits as the baby grows.

How the session runs

You book through the website or by contacting the studio directly. Before the session, you talk through themes, colours, outfits and who will be in the pictures, so the day is planned rather than improvised. On the day, the session moves at your baby’s pace, with breaks whenever they are needed and no pressure to finish by the clock.

Edited photographs are typically delivered within two weeks of the session, and all RAW photographs are included. Albums and framed portraits are available if you want the pictures on the wall rather than only on a screen.
